Jen's Ely Update • May 2004

(some photos are the same as before... scroll down to see house updates)

Karma and me at our campsite at Timber Trail Lodge/Campground just outside of Ely on Hwy 16.

This was a "remote" campsite, meaning they had to wheel your firewood to you thru a little path in the trees.

This was my very first time camping ever (except for when I was, like, 3). Karma's first time too. He particularly enjoyed watching ham cubes pop out of the skillet as I fried up breakfast over an open flame.

Our campsite after I Feng Shuied it. Actually, (as seen in the photo above) I did install tarp flooring under the table and up to the fire pit so that we could walk barefoot... we're roughing it but gee, there's a lot of dirt there....

(by "we" I DO mean Karma and me. He forgot his own Teva sandals and then had an unfortunate incident involving those sensitive little paw dog hairs and the the velcro straps on my sandals so he went barefoot too)

The tent is courtesy of my brother and sister-n-law (awesome birthday present). I was just happy I didn't have to pick out my first tent. And I'm glad it was green. I like green.

My new toy!!! I've always wanted a canoe. This is a 12', 50lb, fiberglass Old Town "Stillwater" canoe. Very wide - great for fishing and carrying dogs. I have developed an ever-so-graceful way of taking the canoe off the car and putting it back up by myself. I now know how to portage, get Karma to get in and out (aiming treats where I want him to go), and paddle without spinning in the breeze (a short canoe helps). and it's so PRETTY!!!

(Karma looks positively smashing in his color coordinating life jacket too...)

My home on James Street. It's so charming. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it! It's old and neat, in a great, cute neighborhood with neat streetlights even. The houses around it are cute too!

This is the side of the house. There's a crabapple tree and some nice shrubs against the house. It's stucco. The double garage on the right belongs to the property too. The street I'm taking the photo from is a quiet-ish dead end road. I'm about 5 blocks from the main street in Ely which will make it easy to walk or ride my bike to work, wherever it may be at the time....

The back of the house (duh). The top little mini porch has a screen door that has a "J" on it. I saw that as soon as I pulled up to park and knew this HAD to be my house - ha! :) It's a nice backyard, room for building a fire pit and maybe a little stone patio. The neighbor's backyards are nice too. Some have gardens, and there's even rhubarb in my backyard.

El-Garago and the backyard from the kitchen door.

The living room area before I moved in....

Same room, different angle... while I was updating it... tore up the carpet, took off a GINORMOUS mirror on the opposite wall (prev owner took it down), patched and primed the wall where the mirror was, removed the window treatments...

After painting it and making it more me... I've changed some things since - moved furniture and some other things around, but it's about like this now.

View from the back of the room

I don't have b4 photos of this online but it's almost the same, just w/o carpet. The wood floors are beautiful, and in great condition.

I moved in on October 3rd 2003 and have done a lot of things to change the look of this little house. I still have more to do... refinish the steps, paint the foyer and stairway, and other odds and ends ... :)
